The Center for Progressive Christianity
The Church of the Advent joined The Center for Progressive Christianity last summer. This international
organization offers an approach to Christianity that is inclusive, innovative, and informed.
As an affiliate, Advent will be listed in their directory as a congregation offering acceptance for all people and
respect for other religious traditions.
<<Organized religion does not have to be irrelevant, ineffectual, or repressive...>>

This educational program was developed by the University of the South, Sewanee in 1975.
The participants in this course study the Bible, church history, and twentieth century
theology in weekly sessions led by a trained mentor. Students follow a lesson and study
guide and meet to discuss the materials, but there are no tests or papers to write. This
program is designed for the laity of churches of all denominations. Hope Gaines and we
currently have seven enrolled in the class. Contact Sandy Stone or Hope Gaines for more
